Billy began riding when he was six and took on close to 70 star riders from across Australia and overseas in the biggest event of the year at Macarthur Motorcycle Club.
The Sussex Inlet racer was edged out for the national crown in the 65cc 9-under-11 years class by Australia's reigning world champion Jett Lawrence.
Billy "The Kid" Payne is already an Australian champion, having won the 2012 title in the 7-to-under-9 years 50cc category at Coolum.
In his latest Australian titles, Billy finished third fastest following three gruelling qualifying races to make the final, which featured the top 40 riders.
In the three-race final Billy was ultra-consistent, finishing second, fourth and second to clinch second overall.
The Australian champion had just a few weeks earlier beaten the world's best riders at the world titles in Belgium.
Billy loves motocross, after getting on his first bike while still in kindergarten then progressing from nipper class to now 65cc and above bikes.
This year he has won two events at Nowra in the 65cc 9-11 years and 85cc 9-under-12 years age groups.
He was also third at the East Coast Championships in the 65cc 9-11 years class and fourth in the NSW State MX Titles in the 65cc 9-11 years class.
His proud parents were initially surprised by their son's interest in motocross but have supported him every step of the way, including many trips interstate for racing.
