Shawn Moore lives in Harriet Spearing Drive in Woonona and he said contractors for NBN Co were in the street preparing the pits for the broadband cable about two months ago.
‘‘They damaged the stormwater [pipe] and then denied that it was damaged,’’ Mr Moore said.
‘‘So I ended up having to dig the footpath up a week ago, to expose the pipe and the damage.
‘‘I paid for the materials myself and got some assistance from the contractors.’’
Once Mr Moore had uncovered the pipe, he found a metre-long section of the stormwater pipe had been cut out. That was replaced with a piece of bigger pipe and ‘‘sleeved’’ over the top and held in place with ‘‘a bit of duct tape’’.
Also, the NBN conduit ran straight through the pipe.
Mr Moore suspected the same thing had happened to his neighbour’s stormwater pipe because soil around the pit was wet and collapsing.
‘‘You’ve got the potential that, if you walk on it after a bit of rain, it’s going to collapse – it’s a safety issue,’’ Mr Moore said.
He also claimed the contractors had left direction markers painted on his driveway and, despite promises, still hadn’t removed them.
‘‘They painted on my driveway with marking paint,’’ he said.
‘‘They told me they’d have that pressure-cleaned off the next day when I spoke to them – I’m still waiting. They’ve also marked the paving through the street, too.’’
Mr Moore said he had lodged several complaints with NBN Co about the damage to both his property and his neighbours.
As of Wednesday morning, he said the problems had not been resolved.
An NBN Co spokeswoman said it had received Mr Moore’s complaints and apologised for any inconvenience.
‘‘We are working with our service delivery partner to immediately resolve these issues,’’ the spokeswoman said.
Also, it is understood the spray paint used is water-soluble and should wash away soon.
