Brett Morris says he will never turn his back on the Dragons, but he still holds some disappointment over the way his switch to Canterbury came about.

In his first interview since the switch, Morris said he held no regrets about his big money move from St George Illawarra to Canterbury to play alongside twin brother Josh for the next four years.

He spoke about the hurt of not being able to bid farewell to the Dragons' faithful and the excitement of being able to fulfil a promise to Josh that they would finish their careers together.

Discussions with Dragons

Morris refused to go into detail about his negotiations with the Dragons out of respect for the Bulldogs.

"They had decisions they made," Morris said.

"They run a club, they can do whatever they want really. At the end of the day the players are a business as well and the clubs are their own business. Both players and clubs do what's best for them.

"There was a little bit [of disappointment]. It wasn't something that happened over a couple of weeks. It was a couple of months. There were certain things that did frustrate me. At the end of the day I got the result I wanted. I get to play with my brother. I'm going to a new club and sometimes a change is as good as a holiday. I'm really looking forward to it. It was very hard. I've been at the Dragons for a long time and followed this club since I was a small child. To make this change was a massive deal."

Dragons' fans

With his switch announced post-season, Morris didn't get a chance to farewell the Dragons' faithful.

"I had great success at the Dragons," Morris said.

"Something I'm very proud of, winning the grand final and World Club Challenge. I got to represent my state and country. They've been a big part of my life the Dragons and I'll never turn my back on them.

"To the fans, the passionate supporters and their kids who have followed my career very closely, they are the ones I feel a bit sorry for. They are the ones that didn't get a chance to say goodbye. I remember watching when I was a kid. You've got certain fans who have been supporting the club and they are one-eyed, you see them week in, week out at all the games and you become mates with some of them. To not being able to say goodbye, it did hurt, it was my decision."

Playing alongside Josh

When the Morris boys roomed together at last year's World Cup, Brett worked hard to persuade Josh to return to the Dragons when his contract expired.

It almost worked when Josh was close to agreeing to join St George Illawarra next season.

However, when Josh re-signed it meant their reunion could only happen at Belmore.

"We always spoke about ending our careers together," Morris said. "Whether it was at the Bulldogs or Dragons. When Josh made that decision to stay at the Bulldogs, it made my decision a lot harder.

"We're best mates. We're brothers. We played all our junior career together. It's something we missed through our entire careers. We know we can get the best out of each other when we play in the same side."

Playing fullback and new coach Des Hasler

Morris begins his stint at the Bulldogs with the rehabilitation group after off-season shoulder surgery. Despite being rated by many as the best winger in the world, it is likely he'll take over the No 1 jersey.

"It's an option," Morris said. "I've played there in the past. It's not my decision. That's Des' decision. The side he has got, there are plenty of great outside backs. I'm just going there very open to what his plans are.

"I've met [Hasler] a couple of times and he is a bit different, but I've had a couple of coaches and he is pretty out there."
