The veteran reporter was delivering a piece-to-camera on the edge of a skate park in Los Angeles when a skateboard came flying out of the bowl.
"You'd be right to be sceptical, thousands of traditional skateboarders," Amor said in the seconds before impact at the scenic Venice Beach.
His cameraman could only look on as the skateboard hurtled into his head, much to the amusement of the Sunrise hosts in Sydney.
Amor reacted as one would expect, falling to the ground and clutching his head, reassuring his colleague all the while, "I'm good, I'm good".
Amor later returned to the scene of impact, reportedly with just a bump on his head, to complete his piece-to-camera.
The segment featured legendary skater Tony Hawk's first ride on a hoverboard.
In a career spanning 25 years, Amor's credits include winning the Edward R Murrow National Award for his report on the rescue of a toddler after the Haiti earthquake, a Logie for his report on the Garuda plane crash in Indonesia in 2008 and two Quill Awards.
He was on the ground in New York during the September 11 attacks, in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and has been a war correspondent during the Libyan rebellion, the Gaza war and two Fijian coups.
