Sydney Trains has advised all commuters on the South Coast, Illawarra and Eastern Suburbs to allow ‘‘plenty of extra time’’ and listen to announcements as stopping patterns of their trains may change.
Illawarra passengers says they have been stuck waiting between stations on standing-room only trains, with infrequent announcements being made.
Meantime, police have launched a critical incident investigation into woman’s death.
St George officers were called to Hurstville Railway Station at about 1.50pm, following reports of a woman in the rail corridor.
Police received reports an 18-year-old woman was struck by a train. She died at the scene.
