Lake Illawarra police Inspector Ron Davis said the Unanderra post office was held up by two men on Thursday afternoon.
A man in his 30s was arrested in Warrawong and charged with the Unanderra robbery, as well as armed hold-ups of post offices at Shellharbour and Lake Heights, among others.
"After the Unanderra robbery, we had a fair idea of where he was, so we went to his local haunts at Warrawong," Insp Davis said.
"Police formed a perimeter and caught him.''
Police allege they found evidence including balaclavas at his house.
The manager of the Unanderra post office said two men entered the store and demanded money, before running away.
Three staff and at least four customers were inside at the time.
The manager ran after the men, but was unable to catch up with them.
"I made sure the staff and customers were OK, and ran after them. People outside told me which way they went," the manager said.
"One of them has been caught now. It's a relief."
Insp Davis said the man will appear before Port Kembla local court on Friday.
On November 4, two men carrying a sawn-off shotgun entered the Shellharbour post office, leaving in a 4WD with cash.
Police are still investigating the robberies, and seeking at least one more person believed to be involved.
