Wollongong Hawks head coach Gordie McLeod will be in the United States for the next two weeks to search for talent to fill the club’s two import positions for the 2012-13 NBL season.
McLeod will be attending the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas and scouting camps in New York and Los Angeles.
As part of their preparation for the upcoming NBL season, the Hawks will host two US universities next month in a special double-header weekend of preseason games at the Snakepit.
The Hawks will host the Washington State Cougars on Friday, August 10, and Northern Colorado Bears on Sunday, August 12.
The Friday night game against Washington State will tip off at 7.30pm, while the Sunday game against Northern Colorado begins at 3pm.
‘‘We’re excited to be hosting two preseason games at the Snakepit this season,’’ Hawks general manager Mili Simic said yesterday.
‘‘It gives fans a chance to get back into Hawks basketball, but also gives the team some early games to get back into the swing of things leading into the 2012-13 NBL season.
‘‘The guys loving playing at the Snakepit.
‘‘It’s always good to go back to our roots and play our preseason games on the club’s old home court.
‘‘We also know our fans enjoy it too. We’re expecting a packed house again for both games, so we encourage fans to get their tickets early.’’
Tickets for each game are $5 for children, $10 for adults and $25 for a family of four. All tickets are general admission and go on sale next Monday.
The Hawks have sold out all preseason games at the Snakepit for the past three seasons.
