Figtree: Man trapped after crash

An elderly man has been left trapped in his car for more than half an hour after hitting a guard rail at Figtree this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to a location near Masters Rd on the F6 freeway about 12.10pm following reports a northbound car had left the road and hit a guard rail.

They found a 71-year-old man trapped in his crumpled car, which had hit the rail head-on, and called for help from Fire and Rescue NSW.

Paramedics said the car's airbags had deployed.

The man was freed about 12.45pm and stabilised at the scene, and is expected to be taken to Wollongong Hospital shortly.

Paramedics have said the man is complaining of neck and chest pain, but is otherwise unhurt.

One northbound lane of the freeway is closed near Masters Rd, and traffic in the area is heavy.
