The migrant stories of 124 Italian Illawarra grandparents have been preserved for future generations in I Nonni: La Storia Nostra (Volume II).
Translated as The Grandparents: Our Story, the limited edition book has been compiled by the Illawarra Association of Teachers of Italian to celebrate IATI's 20th anniversary.
The majority of the interviews of Italian grandparents were conducted by their teenage grandchildren while learning Italian and the five-year process has finally come to fruition.
I Nonni: La Storia Nostra (Volume II) will be launched after 10am Italian Mass on November 30 at St John Vianney Co-Cathedral in Fairy Meadow.
"It's about the first generation of Italo-Australians in the Illawarra post World War II," IATI secondary teachers representative Vera Cleary said.
"It's their memories and it also has interviews of some of the Scalabrinian priests who helped a lot in the early years when interpreting and translating services weren't available."
Mrs Cleary said the first volume was published in 2009 with interviews of more than 100 Italian migrants and work then began on the second volume.
The idea was for third-generation Italian-Australians to learn about their grandparents' migrant experiences.
Cordeaux Heights resident Lucia Zanetti has 12 grandchildren - her 18-year-old grandson Christopher interviewed her in 2013 while a student at Holy Spirit College.
"I think it [the book] is a lovely idea. It's an historical record," Mrs Zanetti said.
She was born in Bolzano in the Dolomite mountains and came to Australia in 1951. She and her late husband moved to Wollongong in 1959.
Volume II will be available at Wollongong City and Sydney's Mitchell libraries.
