  • Wollongong metal band Graves start their national tour with Ocean Grove this week. They play Sydney, Newcastle and then Unanderra on Saturday, before heading nationwide and playing shows in Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne.
  • Baytek, Acaddamy and Nick Lynar are playing Stereosonic festival this weekend. Acaddamy and Nick Lynar open the Home Grown stage on Saturday, while Baytek close it.
  • A big all-ages gig is being organised for the Wollongong Youth Centre on December 4. Part of the Steel City Sound exhibition at the Wollongong Art Gallery, the Steel City Mayhem gig will see the likes of Harbour, White Blanks, Sam Allen and heaps more playing at the youth centre from 6pm. It's all free too.
  • Music Farmers are hosting one of their last ever gigs this Friday, before they move to a new location. New Zealand band Trust Punks are joined by The Nuclear Family for the evening gig. Music Farmers are heading to a new shop near the Grand Hotel on Keira Street in the new year.
  • Mixtape For The Drive start their national tour with Red Jumpsuit Apparatus and Hawthorne Heights next week. The Illawarra pop-punk dudes kick off the tour on December 4 in Brisbane, before crossing the country and ending in Perth on December 22. They play a Sutherland and Sydney show in between, for any fans wanting to get along to see the show.
  • The annual HYFEST mini-festival is this weekend. Headlined as always by Hytest, the Corrimal Hotel show will also feature High Tension, Giants of Science, Don Fernando, Vee Bees, Hoon, Rukus, Baby Machine and stacks more. Bands from midday.
  • The Walking Who and Farmer & The Owl have been nominated for awards by FBI Radio. The radio station's annual SMAC (Sydney Music Arts and Culture) awards have announced nominations, with TWW up for Best Live Music Act and Best Song, while the Farmer & The Owl festival at UOW is nominated for Best Music Event. Vote for the locals at fbismacawards.com.
  • The Walking Who are over in Europe right now after the Iceland Airwaves Festival. They've played London and Holland, and have further dates through Germany, Italy and the UK. Good luck to the dudes, killing it on another continent!
  • In more Yours & Owls news, the next Farmer and The Owl festival is set for March - more details coming in December. Also, Y&O are the new entertainment booker for the UOW Unibar - so expect the Unibar to become a hub for live music again.
  • El Grande (Joe of Tommy M & The Mastersounds, Jimmy of The Vanns) have released another new song from their debut EP. Everywhere I Go is let loose just days before their EP launch at Kiama's Grand Hotel on December 5. The song is available on their Triple J Unearthed page.
