7.04am Federal Immigration Minister Scott Morrison must love reading about himself. The Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that, according to documents from the House of Representatives, Mr Morrison spent $62,484.30 for a company to monitor the media for mentions of his name and the Immigration department.
Kudos to Labor MP Pat Conroy, who said it was ironic that the most ‘‘secretive minister in the history of the Commonwealth’’ was spending hundreds of thousands of dollars monitoring what the media was saying about him.

6.18am Social media has helped a Melbourne woman catch the man who allegedly punched her. Erica Moloney was punched in the face during an unprovoked attack on Wednesday night and, when she found her alleged attacker was still in the area, took a photo of him and posted it on Facebook.
By the next day police had arrested Joe Fowden, 33, and charged him over the attack.

* The economy of Sydney contributed almost 40 per cent of Australia’s growth in the last financial year.
