Kookas dominated day one with Mick Perry blazing a magnificent 180 – his highest score since a record-setting 279 for Kookas in the 2009 semi-final against Albion Park.
But Perry, and teammates Scott Cox and Callum DeBruin are in Griffith with the Southern Zone representative side for the Country Championships and will miss the second day against the Rats.
Kookas will have a weakened bowling attack while the Rats are close to full strength with only Darren Mansfield missing due to his Southern Zone selection.
‘‘We are going to have to bowl well,’’ Kookas skipper Gerard Healey said.
‘‘311 is a great score but it’s a fantastic deck and fast outfield and Oak Flats are a top batting side. Kerry (Penfold) will be a key wicket for is and we’ll have to be consistent all day with the ball.’’
Oak Flats resume at 1-44 with the dangerous Penfold unbeaten on 22.
In the other two Premier League games, the bowling teams are in command after doing the job with the bat on day one.
Unbeaten leaders Lake Illawarra posted 250 against premiers Albion Park at Keith Grey Oval with Scott Ulcigrai smashing a brilliant 126.
The Park have been only a shadow of last season’s outfit and are in trouble at 6-88.
They are long odd to claim first innings points and might need to bat well just not to be beaten outright.
Finally, a half century by Liam Anderberg (69) has put Kiama in a strong position against Shellharbour at Tom Willoughby Oval.
Kiama posted 8-262 with Shellharbour to resume at 3-87.
New Shellharbour recruit Sam Bracey has been in great touch this season and will return to the crease on 26 with partner Ned Taylor on 22.
Ladder: Lake Illawarra 63, Oak Flats 58, Kiama 39, Kookas 27, Shellharbour 27, Albion Park 22.
