Officers were called to Horne Street after an intoxicated 18-year-old phoned emergency services reporting the incident, which he say occurred around 12.40 on Sunday morning.
The man told police he was he was walking along Horne Street when an unknown number of males hit him in the back of the head, causing him to fall to the ground unconscious.
He claimed that when he woke a short time later, he discovered his mobile phone, wallet, $300 cash, his jumper and a notepad missing.
He walked to a friend’s house nearby and dialled triple 0.
Police located the man’s phone and jumper during a search in the Horne Street vicinity.
The man wasn’t formally interviewed due to his level of intoxication, but is expected to make a statement on Sunday.
He reportedly suffered only minor injuries.
Inquiries are continuing.
