The Bureau of Meteorology once again issued a weather warning, saying severe thunderstorms were likely to cause hail and heavy rainfall.
SES volunteers from across the Illawarra were on standby, while teams were active in the Wingecarribee area assisting residents with about 40 flood and storm related tasks.
The weird and wild start to summer is expected to continue heading into the weekend with storms forecast for the Illawarra region every day for the next week.
On Wednesday, the Illawarra woke to a sea of fog blanketing the region, making Wollongong almost impossible to spot from vantage points including Mt Keira and Hill 60 in Port Kembla.
The fog followed another night of stormy weather with lightning strikes crackling across the sky.
