In response to the page 6 article, ‘‘New Vic premier to rely on micro parties’’ Mercury, Monday, December 1, 2014, the Victorian Liberal government should never have lost the state election, and yet deserved a kick in the pants and to be thrashed.

The Liberals in Victoria won with a good majority, in 2010.
The state deficit has been reduced and bought under control with some bureaucratic red tape removed.
But the Liberals failed to deliver a conservative government to the state.
It acted in a very timid manner in terms of social and business reform.
It also failed to reform Victoria’s education system which (like the rest of Australia) is under the influence of the extreme left.
However, the Victorian Labor Party under Daniel Andrews is not really prepared for government.
Mr Andrews, who belongs to Labor’s socialist-left faction, promised to tear up major government contracts for development in order to pander to the extreme left and the Greens.
Mr Andrews was elected to govern for all Victorians, not just the socialist-left.
Mr Andrews really needs to understand and appreciate the position he has been elected to.
Prime Minister Abbott should note that pretend Liberal governments who act more like real conservatives in opposition, and yet cannot find the guts to act like real conservatives when elected to office, will be punished at the ballot box.

An apology is needed
Now that sensible forces in the Senate have put an end to the university fee deregulation scheme, will UOW Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Wellings apologise to the Illawarra region’s future students for his championing of this policy?
As the local regional university, UOW has provided opportunity for so many from the Illawarra and South Coast like myself.
Professor Wellings has been far too keen to see this opportunity restricted to the wealthy few.
At least there have been good folk like Vice-Chancellor Professor Stephen Parker of the University of Canberra and UOW council member Michael Zelinsky that have been willing to stand up to protect our regional universities.
Professor Wellings can learn a thing or two from them about what a regional university, like the one he has been granted stewardship over, is actually for.

Thanks for nothing
Thanks to the election of Sudmalis,Turnbull and Abbott to government, Gerringong/Gerroa is to miss out on the latest NBN roll out.

Kiama and Jamberoo have FTTP, Nowra/Bomaderry is due for connection soon but not us in Gerringong/Gerroa.
A two-speed broadband society for Gilmore – thanks, Ms Sudmalis.

Place Hughes on list
Wouldn’t it be an extraordinary tribute to see Phillip Hughes’ name appear in the upcoming first Test team list on the scoreboard as Australia’s twelfth man?
