Walking around, visitors could hear the first notes of a concert band coming out of classrooms and mingling with some cool jazz being played outside another corner of the building.
Around the back under the shade of a large tree, an enthusiastic band of young musicians taking part in the Con’s Chime program learnt some songs on the run to perform for their parents.
Conservatorium CEO Joe Gaudiosi said the open day was designed to give students of all ages a taster of the Con’s programs.
“One of the things I’m trying to get across is that we do a variety of things – for kids, serious musicians and community members,” he said.
“This year we were keen to hold the day outside – and the weather held off – so that we could engage with our surrounds and show them off.”
