The clash between the bottom two sides Albion Park and Kookas at Oakleigh Park was washed out, leaving both clubs to try to conjure a result on Saturday's second day.
At Geoff Shaw Oval, Oak Flats managed to flatten Shellharbour with bat and ball to set up a charge towards an outright on day two.
Shellharbour were back in the sheds for just 79, with Nathan Morrow taking 3-10 and Rats skipper Ryan Chatterton 3-17.
Oak Flats opener Kerry Penfold is unbeaten on 61 and in sight of his third ton of the season and 48th century for the club.
Penfold and Matt Counsell (41) put on 98, with Oaf Flats to resume at 1-110, a lead of 31.
"We'll look at the conditions before we decide whether to bat on or put them in again straight away," Chatterton said.
"We're in a good position with first innings points secured and hopefully we can get the outright result."
Meanwhile, co-leaders Lake Illawarra put in a dreadful batting effort against Kiama, with the match at Howard Fowles Oval in the balance heading into day two.
The Lakers were dismissed for a season-low 149. Scott Ulcigrai (71) was outstanding and with his brother Mark (41) saved the side from total collapse.
"It was our worst batting effort of the season," Lake skipper Brendan White said.
Steve Norris took 4-37 for Kiama.
Kiama will resume at 2-13.
Ladder (before round 7): Lake Illawarra 79, Oak Flats 79; Kiama 63; Shellharbour 29; Kookas 27; Albion Park 25.
