Not many eight-year-olds can count AFL, surfing, collecting budgies and presenting at horse shows among their interests but Conor Mountney lives an eclectic childhood.
Already a veteran of horse shows for half his life, Conor is preparing for a trip to Melbourne this month to compete in the junior handler class at the National All Welsh Show.
Conor has a love of agriculture, inspired by his parents, and made his debut as a junior handler at a horse show at age four.
After finishing first at every show, Conor and his Welsh mountain pony placed second in the junior handler 8-9 years' class at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, in his last event before the nationals.
The Sydney event featured talented children from across Australia.
The year 3 Cedars Christian College student is just as happy breeding his large collection of budgies, or attending to the other animals on the family property at Kembla Grange.
Conor's dad Anthony is a local horse trainer, and his love of show horses has been passed down to his talented son.
Conor and his younger sister Matisse were recently given a pony, which Conor is looking forward to preparing for a horse show.
