Illawarra Academy of Sport netball graduate Chelsea Bolton has capped off a stellar 2014 by being selected in the Australian under-17 indoor netball team. Bolton spearheaded the NSW under-16 indoor netball team to victory at the Australian Junior Nationals held in Western Australia from November 30 to December 4.
The NSW side dominated across the championships winning all bar one game which was a draw with eventual runners-up Queensland Heat. They were clinical in their execution and this was evident in the final, with the girls completing their domination with a 54-34 win over their northern rivals.
Bolton adds this selection to her Netball NSW under-17 selection earlier this year.
IAS HAS STRONG REPRESENTATION AT THE AUSTRALIAN ALL SCHOOLS
The IAS had three current athletes compete at the 2014 Australian All Schools Athletics Championships held in Adelaide last weekend.
Casey Lee Bedford competed in the under-16 100-metres and 200m double, finishing fourth in her 100m heat (11th overall) and third in her 200m heat (11th overall).
Teghan Barklay competed in the 90m hurdles and 200m hurdles double, finishing third in her 100m heat to qualify for the final where she finished sixth. Her 200m event was a straight final held over two heats with the fastest times taking the medals. Teghan won her heat but was unlucky to finish without a medal with the second heat being faster, finishing fourth overall.
Kade Szakacs competed in the 1500m and finished 19th in a tough field.
Academy graduate Jarrod Twigg also had a great meet, winning the under-16 200m hurdles in a personal best time of 25.51 seconds.
Jarrod competed against the older boys in the under-18 100m hurdles and finished third.
He also won a silver medal in the relay.
