Sounds of Chirstmas could be heard across the Illawarra at the weekend as community members - young and old - donned their festive frocks and sang seasonal songs to mark the occasion.

This year’s Shellharbour City Carols by Candlelight, held at Reddall Reserve, Lake Illawarra, kick-started the festive season on Friday night with a showcase of talented performers.
The event, which is the biggest in the Illawarra, featured solo performances by more than 30 artists - from traditional family yuletide classics to uniquely Australian carols - and a special visit from Santa Claus.
With Santa hats on, song books in hand and candles flickering, the sing-a-long gave thousands of people the chance to ease their minds amid the rush to prepare for December 25.
And for those who wanted to spread their festive cheer further, the sporting fields of Figtree High School were the place to be on Saturday night for the Figtree Community Carols.
Hosted by the Figtree Anglican Church, the carols began with carnival rides for children and featured performances by a number of guest artists.
Both events ended with a bang, as fireworks erupted into the night sky.
On Sunday, carols events were also held at Unanderra Community Hall, Thirroul Beach Park Reserve and Austinmer Beach Reserve.
