Case of Junoob puts role of Lasix on agenda

The Lasix influence in the sensational Junoob positive was emphasised by I'm Imposing in Saturday's Villiers at Randwick. "I believe it helps with the longevity of a horse's career," trainer Chris Waller told Racing NSW stewards during the inquiry, after which the trainer was fined $30,000 because Junoob tested positive to the diuretic after his group 1 Metrop triumph at Randwick. Waller uses Lasix during training, which is within the rules, but it was mistakenly given to Junoob before the race. Expert veterinary opinion maintained it wouldn't have improved his performance due to the time element.
