On Thursday - day six of his eight-day challenge - he ran through the streets of Wollongong and along the Blue Mile.
He has raised $8000 so far for HeartKids Australia, and hopes to get to his goal of $10,000 by the time he reaches Sydney.
His father - paediatric cardiologist Professor Jim Wilkinson - has long been his inspiration, and is now acting as his support team.
"Dad has been working in this field for 40 years and he helped set up the first child heart transplant unit in Australia at Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne," Mr Wilkinson said.
"He's worked closely with HeartKids as a patron and medical adviser and so it's a cause that's been very close to our whole family.
"Six babies are born each day with childhood heart disease - it's the leading cause of death for children.
"Twenty per cent of childhood heart conditions are gene-linked abnormalities - the other 80 per cent we don't know much about and that's why there's the need for more research."
Mr Wilkinson, a public servant, said the funds he was raising would help the important work HeartKids did in support, advocacy and research on childhood heart disease.
He's been running more than a marathon each day since setting off from Canberra on Saturday.
"It's been a challenge but my father and my wife Caroline have been a great support team," he said. For details visit www.cbr2syd.com.
