A 14-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after he was stung by an octopus at Bombo Beach.

According to emergency services the boy was out surfing with a friend when an octopus, which the boy described as having a blue colour, wrapped around his left thumb.
He was experiencing tingling in his arm and numbness and was taken by helicopter to Wollongong Hospital.
It has not been confirmed if the sting was from a blue-ringed octopus, which can cause respiratory failure.
