Highway Patrol officers stopped a Honda Accord allegedly travelling at 129km/h in an 80 zone on Mount Ousley Road
Police – who had started the NSW Police’s Operation Safe Arrival campaign - spoke to 19-year-old provisional driver and his male passenger before issuing him a fine for exceeding the speed limit over 45km/h.
The man’s licence has been suspended until June, and his number plates have been confiscated.
Assistant Commissioner John Hartley said it was “extremely disappointing” to see drivers act irresponsibly at the start of the road safety holiday campaign.
“I want to remind all NSW drivers that [police] will be out in force over the Christmas and New Year period and will catch you if you choose to break the law and risk lives,” Assistant Commissioner Hartley said.
“Those who choose to speed will receive a significant fine and can expect the loss of demerit points, their licence, and possibly even their vehicle.
“We will do everything we can to stop the senseless loss of lives on our roads.”
Double demerits will be in place from December 24 until January 4 for speeding, seatbelt and motorcycle helmet offences.
