Almost $25 million changed hands in 2014 as the Illawarra’s 10 priciest properties went to market.
The big spending kicked off on March 6, when a 74,770 square metre block at 21 Shone Avenue, Horsley, sold to Jomand Pty Ltd for $3.5 million.
A relatively humble three-bedder at 4 Barney Street, Kiama, was the next to catch the eye of the deep-pocketed.
Set on 864 square metres, the home’s unsurpassed views of Kiama’s surf beach prompted a $2.1 million sale on March 25 to another company, Kjht Pty Ltd.
A luxury Thirroul beach house with a rooftop entertainment area and a viewing window through its upstairs pool sold for $1.85 million on April 16.
The University of Wollongong was next to join the year’s biggest property spenders, laying down $2.85 million on April 23 for a 10,800 square metre block at 9-13 Falder Place at Keiraville.
The acquisition is key to the university’s plans to shift its main campus boundary closer to Mount Ousley.
With May came a new record for the region.
The $3.6 million sale of 2 Norman Street, Mangerton was the highest price for a single dwelling non-waterfront property and the highest sale under the hammer for a residential property.
Nationally, it was pipped only by a two-storey Toorak home ($3.95 million) for that May weekend’s richest property sale. An eco-friendly luxury home at 1 Elizabeth Street, Mangerton, proved too good to pass up for a buyer who paid $1.9 million for the honour on June 14.
August recorded the year’s third-richest Illawarra sale, with a four-bedroom beachside home at 32 Haig Street, Wombarra, selling for $3.02 million after lengthy post-auction negotiations.
November 5 saw 30 Church Street, Wollongong sold to NPA Developments Pty Ltd for $1.8 million.
A six-bedroom home set on 25,786 square metres at 54 Ford Road, Thirroul, changed hands the next day for a cool $2.4 million.
The November 11 sale of 93 Wallaby Hill Road, Jamberoo, for $1.75 million, rounded out the year’s top 10.
