It was alleged the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning when the victim accused Wayne Robert Jacobsen, 44, of sleeping with his girlfriend. An argument broke out and Jacobsen allegedly grabbed a large kitchen knife, lunging it into the stomach of the man he had been sharing a public housing home with for the past four months.
The man suffered a puncture wound to his stomach and a lung.
Jacobsen, still with the knife in his hand, then went to the home of a neighbour and asked them to call an ambulance, a Port Kembla bail court heard.
When police arrived at the McPhail Street home, they found Jacobsen hunched over in the driveway with blood on his hands and arms.
The victim was taken to Wollongong Hospital where he underwent surgery.
Jacobsen, a labourer, was granted strict conditional bail and will face court again on January 14.
