A ‘‘strategic’’ and ‘‘political’’ move to dump Shellharbour City councillor Peter Moran as the council’s representative on the Killalea State Park Trust Board will be challenged at an extraordinary meeting on Monday night.

Last week, councillors voted 4-3 to replace Cr Moran on the board with Shellharbour Mayor Marianne Saliba.
On Friday, councillors Moran, Kellie Marsh and Helen Stewart lodged a rescission motion against the decision demanding Cr Moran be re-appointed.
Cr Marsh said the ‘‘community was outraged’’ with the vote.
‘‘The motion to appoint Councillor Saliba came from left field,’’ Cr Marsh said.
‘‘We had reappointed Cr Moran unanimously to the position in September.’’
Cr Marsh said Killalea must remain a keepsake for current and future generations.
‘‘We have first class management working in a unified way doing an outstanding job at Killalea,’’ she said.
Cr Saliba said because she chaired the council’s Aboriginal Advisory Committee and was a member of the tourism board there were synergies with Killalea.
‘‘In all boards it’s important to have change, it’s important to continue to renew those people who are on it in order to get the best outcomes, ’’Cr Saliba said.
‘‘My colleagues felt it was an appropriate appointment for me to take that position. ‘‘Councillor Moran’s term expires in January and it was because of that the decision was made to select somebody else for the board.’’
Cr Saliba said councillors were ‘‘entitled to do whatever they like’’ in terms of appealing a decision, but predicted on Monday afternoon the outcome would be the same.
