Two Illawarra men, one a father of four, will remain behind bars over the holiday season after a magistrate refused the pair bail over serious assault charges.
Shane Noel Dingle and Jade Morgan, both 32, are accused of joining three other men in attacking two victims with a tomahawk axe and a baseball bat at a Dapto home last Saturday.
The violent assault left one man with deep cuts to his body, while the other victim was bashed and kicked multiple times.
Police documents tendered to Port Kembla Local Court on Monday said the two men had pulled into the driveway of a house on the Princes Highway and were waiting for a female to come out when two black utes carrying five men turned up.
The group of assailants, which police alleged included Dingle and Morgan, got out of the cars wearing white forensic-style coveralls, balaclavas and gloves, while two were carrying a tomahawk and a baseball bat.
The group began yelling at the two victims to get out of the car. When they refused, the group smashed the passenger's side window and pulled the pair out.
Three men attacked one of the victims, while the other two turned their attention to the second victim.
During the melee, one man was struck multiple times with a tomahawk to the head and torso before being bashed with a baseball bat.
The other man was violently punched and kicked.
The attack only stopped when patrolling police came past, prompting the attackers to flee.
Three men escaped in one of the cars, however, police alleged Morgan and Dingle fled on foot.
Morgan was found after a short foot pursuit, allegedly hiding behind a tree in a park near Burke Road.
Police were forced to Taser him when he confronted them.
It's alleged he was still wearing the white, blood-stained overalls, with black tape around his wrists and ankles, and a balaclava.
Dingle was discovered crouching behind garbage bins a few houses away.
Police alleged he'd already discarded the bloody clothing behind one of the bins.
The pair were arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, affray and reckless wounding in company.
Both applied for bail in court on Monday, however, neither application was successful, with Magistrate Mark Douglass saying both men posed an unacceptable risk to the safety of the community, and to the alleged victims.
He labelled the accusations against the men "very serious", describing their alleged actions as "a brutal, planned, organised offence".
Both men, who already have criminal records, will remain behind bars ahead of their next court appearance in January.
