Leading goal scorer Nathan Burns, Western Sydney Wanderers striker Tomi Juric and Sydney midfielder Terry Antonis are understood to be among the 23 names to be read out by Postecoglou on Tuesday morning when he reveals his final Asian Cup squad.

Wellington Phoenix forward Burns appears to have done just enough to earn a recall to the national team after an absence of more than three years. His return is a result of his stunning form in the A-League where he has scored 10 goals in 11 games for the resurgent Phoenix, who moved into fourth spot at the weekend with a 2-0 win over Sydney FC.

Burns scored both goals in that game to secure his place in the national team, where he is a chance to make just his eighth international appearance. His inclusion bolsters a forward line that has struggled to find an alternative route to goal other than Tim Cahill. Burns' versatility will make him an asset as he is able to play on the wing and in a central role in attack and was preferred to the likes of A-League duo Bernie Ibini and Nikita Rukavytysa.

While Burns is equally adept out wide or in the middle of a three-pronged attack, it is unlikely he will spearhead the forward line with the inclusion of Juric. The likely selection of Juric will appease many A-League fans who regard the centre forward as one of the brightest prospects of Australian football. Fairly or not, the 23-year-old has drawn many comparisons with the great Mark Viduka due to his style of play and he will have a chance of cementing that perception further in his first international tournament.

Juric has only scored twice in a season interrupted by travel and injury but showed enough to convince Postecoglou to include him in the final 23-man squad. More so, the powerful striker offers an alternative striking option to Cahill and the likes of Matthew Leckie and Robbie Kruse, who are all understood to have made the final cut.

In midfield, rising youngster Antonis appears certain to be given a chance to shine on the international stage with the Sydney FC star understood to be selected in the Socceroos squad. Antonis was chosen ahead of the likes of Mustafa Amini and Perth's Danny De Silva as the young bolter in the Australian squad, while Mitch Nichols' hopes of an Asian Cup berth were dashed by injury.

In defence, PEC Zwolle defender Trent Sainsbury missed his club's last game against Cambur due to injury and is no certainty to be risked for the coming games due to fitness concerns. Wanderers' defender Matthew Spiranovic is set to return to the national team, while his club captain, Nikolai Topor-Stanley, could come in pending injuries to others.

Those players join the usual suspects such as Mile Jedinak, Mat Ryan, Mitch Langerak, Mark Milligan, Tim Cahill, Mark Bresciano and Tommy Oar as the likely names in the final squad that will aim to clinch the Socceroos first silverware since moving to the Asian confederation.
