A Dapto Citizens team skipped by Tom McCauley claimed one of their best wins, beating star-studded visitors skipped by Australian coach Steve Glasson in Saturday's fours sectional round.
McCauley went into the section 12 decider at Thirroul BC with a win and a draw but needed to beat Glasson and his son Ben, and their partners, father and son Murray and Jake Chapman, who had won their first two games.
Playing with Jason Drinkwater, Ernie Moane and Gordon West, McCauley led 11-0 in the decider and went on to win by nine shots.
Steve Glasson is a former South Pacific singles champion. He also won the pairs with Ben, and the Chapmans are the reigning NSW triples champions.
McCauley now faces Wayne Smith's Taren Point side in Tuesday's post-sectional round after Smith had 3wins+14 in his section.
Meanwhile, defending fours champion skip John Green and his all-Taren Point side had to pull out all stops to advance to the post section.
Green, who relinquished the skipping duties to Welsh international David Axon and is joined by NSW Bowler of the Year nominee Craig Donaldson and lead Joel Mitchell, won all three games in a tough section nine at Thirroul.
Green and partners came from 14-5 down with just five ends to play against a composite side skipped by James Webster, before winning by a shot.
Then, with the section in the balance, Green and partners beat Merrylands' Mason Lewis by three shots in the final match.
"It was a real tight section," Green said.
"We looked gone in the first game; the Jones boys were playing great upfront and we were down nine with five ends to play.
"It was all square on the last and we just got home.
"These short matches on a tricky green like Thirroul means anyone can win. But we got through and now it's sudden death."
Green was to play with Axom in Monday's pairs, but with Axon having work commitments, Green will team up with Donaldson.
In the fours, Green and partners now face the composite team skipped by Alan Favell in the first of three knockout matches on Tuesday at carnival headquarters Towradgi.
Favell beat Albion Park's Charlie Cheetham by eight shots in the final game which decided the section.
Thirteen of the 23 section winners won all three games with Paul Woods and partners David Tyrrell, Alan McDonald and Mark Larsen the biggest winner, with 3wins+38 at Towradgi.
The draw for the post-section round is: Darryl Webster v Wes Falconer; Ernie Ronald v Peter Freestone; Paul Woods v Jeremy Henry; Robbie Warren v Ben Ford; Alan Favell v Dave Axom; Wayne Smith v Tom McCauley; Mark Walton v Brian Davies; Lee Smith v winner of Walton v Davis; Ian Baird v Reagan Marmont; Matt Crawford v Rod Taylor; Shane Garvey v Rod Busst; Peter Ellem v Matt McIntyre.
