Shortly after 6pm, ambulance crews and police were called to an accident involving six vehicles at the intersection of the Princes Motorway and Picton Road.
Police said there had been a sudden downpour.
"A truck has driven through a puddle, which has sprayed onto the windshield of a nearby car," a police spokesman said.
"The sudden loss of vision caused the female driver to lose control and her vehicle spun around, clipping four other cars."
Eight people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The accident blocked off the breakdown lane and one southbound lane for about an hour.
