The opportunity to gain skills in the entertainment industry with its Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services involves working with Best Independent Music Video Award winner Sharon Lewis and Al Wright, a sound engineer who has worked on some of Australia's best known albums.
Mr Wright has worked with some of the industry's best recording artists such as INXS (on Listen Like Thieves), the Angels, Hoodoo Gurus, Noiseworks (Touch), Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes (Freight Train Heart), Midnight Oil and Jenny Morris.
Mr Wright moved to Wollongong in the mid-1990s after years of working around the clock in a commercial studio.
The dual ARIA award winner recalled going days without seeing daylight or walking outside.
"It was seven days a week and I didn't ever go on holidays," he said.
Mr Wright was a studio owner himself running Rhinoceros Recordings in Sydney for many years.
He described that as a labour of love but now his passion is teaching young people his craft.
He loves living in Wollongong and doing community-based work that helps the local music scene as well as the disadvantaged youth who would not normally have access to a recording studio, theatre and training facility like the one Illawarra ITeC runs at Coniston.
Anyone interested in gaining skills in sound production, staging, lighting and event management can apply now for the next course that starts on February 24.
