The Australian flag was the accessory of choice in the crowd that gathered at Kiama Downs Surf Life Saving Club on Monday morning to celebrate the national day.

Children were the most enthusiastic flag wavers, with many sporting Australian flag hats, others having it painted on their faces and just about everyone clutching at least one flag if not two.
The Surf Club hosted a barbecue breakfast from 7.30am, followed by a flag-raising ceremony, a sand modelling competition, treasure hunt, thong throwing and other events.
Similar events were held at Surf Beach in Kiama and at the Gerringong Surf Life Saving Club at Werri Beach.
