A NSW Police spokeswoman said the first robbery occurred at a supermarket on Paradise Beach Road at Sanctuary Point about 6.10pm.
A few minutes later a man entered another IGA store on Island Point Road, near Tasman Road, at St Georges Basin and demanded cash.
Police have been told the 49-year-old shop owner was taken against his will and driven away in his own car.
The man was found on Turpentine Road at Tomerong about 7pm, suffering minor injuries.
He has since been taken to hospital for treatment, but his car is yet to be recovered.
The car is described as a 2010 model blue-coloured Holden Commodore station wagon, with the registration BPM07G.
Anyone who spots the car is urged not to approach it, but contact Triple-O immediately.
It is unclear how many offenders were involved or if a weapon was used.
