Yet neighbouring governments, the first port of call for the homeless, see no urgency to end these conflicts. Rather they are content to lean on fences.
The United Nations, a collective of nations, a constituted body formed in the aftermath of the depredations of World War II sees no cause for action, it sits with arms folded shaking its head, doing nothing – a cop-out.
I guarantee if we could uproot these countries in turmoil and drop them in the middle of Europe, no doubt surrounding countries would through concern, call summit meetings, make strategic plans, take control and solve problems.
The reality is, no-one cares about what’s happening in the Middle East – as long as oil keeps slurping into barrels and the petrol dollars keep rolling in, life’s good.

The residents of Brook Street, Dapto, have recently had the overgrown area behind their back fences and the freeway whipper snipped by the RMS/contractors.
Guess what? All the grass cuttings were let go into the stormwater drain and remain there till this day!
Let’s see what happens when the next big storm arrives. Will Wollongong City Council declare this a ‘‘flood plain’’?
Roger Mason, Dapto
In light of federal pollies of all hues squibbing 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act (RDA) is it possible that the 2014 Melbourne incident, where a radicalised Australian Muslim died having attempted to ambush two policemen and, more recently, the Lindt cafe hostage seizure that ended in the deaths of two innocents, might have been avoided had the amendments been legislated?
It seems to me that kowtowing federal pollies are afraid to offend Muslims that hate our Western style of democracy and freedom yet sensible amendments to 18C of the RDA are precisely what all clear-thinking Australians have been screaming out for in order to maintain civil and social balance.
DJ Preece, Balgownie
It is of no consequence how this government words it, the only people who will suffer to balance any budget are those with the least.
As these conservatives care little for anyone except their own kind.
They will reward the rich and punish the poor.
I wonder what will happen when they have taken all Australian jobs offshore; who will be able to buy their products, or have they not thought that far ahead with their constant grab for money?
Do not rely on any politician to help anyone but themselves as the seats on the gravy train are the only thing they are interested in.
As we are all aware it beats working for a living – something they all excel at.
Brian George, Berkeley
The Liberal government and its followers are still content to blame Labor for everything.
OK, there was a few dark clouds there for a while in State Parliament, but they never mention the bankers who plunged us into economic disaster, the expenses-milking politicians who have the cheek to lecture us on benefit fraud, the wealthy tax dodgers and the rip-off rent-charging landlords.
