The 140 parking spots, on the corner of Burelli and Corrimal streets, were taken out of operation ahead of construction work starting on the site's Crown Wollongong complex.
The car park's closure will be a blow for CBD drivers who have already lost the 59-space car park within the former Oxford Tavern site when work began on its Oxford on Crown development.
Wollongong City Council leased the former Dwyers site in 2011 to firm up parking space numbers temporarily. Since then, it has opened car parks in George and Keira streets, and allowed eight hours' parking in Rawson Street and Stewart Street East car parks.
The council said the Stewart Street East car park - where paid parking was introduced in March last year - was only at 63 per cent capacity between 8.30am and 4.30pm.
The council is exploring adding 30 more spaces to the Stewart Street East car park later this year.
