It meant that when the Walkers moved into 3 Tramway Court, Bulli, nine years ago, their four children could safely play on the street with other kids from the neighbourhood without the worry of vehicles charging past them.
"Our kids are now 22, 20, 18 and 16 and they are at university or school, but I can see the next generation of kids who are coming through are doing the same thing," home owner Kath Walker said.
Ms Walker and husband Jim are about to put that happy past behind them with the sale of their six-bedroom home, which the couple designed in consultation with Nadine K Drafting & Design.
In fact, Ms Walker also played a hands-on role in the construction of the home.
She was the project manager on the six-month building project led by Kiama-based builder Paul Kirk.
"Paul was fantastic from the day he started, which was around Christmas Day," she recalled.
"We moved in on the long weekend in June and at the hand-over he gave us a beautiful bunch of white November lillies and a big hamper."
Ms Walker said their home had a beach-side feel with a modern look highlighted by the extensive use of glass and a soft white and pale grey colour palette.
The neutrality of the white colour scheme served as a backdrop for Ms Walker's antiques, which included a Chinese lattice and baptismal font.
With a large family, it was important to the Walkers that their home was low maintenance and perfect for entertaining.
It has a north-facing private deck, which surrounds an in-ground pool.
"The swimming pool was certainly an advantage with the kids," Ms Walker said.
"It's very modern yet also very family friendly, and we've had lots of great times together there. It lent itself well to a big family."
Listed with Trever Molenaar and Kristine Morgan, of McGrath Real Estate, Thirroul, the home will go to auction on Saturday, February 21, at 4.30pm. It has a price guide of more than $1 million.
The home has a sunny northern aspect with ocean glimpses and escarpment views.
Its other features include bespoke kitchen with stone benches, walk-in pantry and induction; cathedral ceilings with louvre windows; and open-plan living areas that spill out to the pool and garden.
The master suite has its own private deck, en suite and walk-in robe.
The home is open for inspection on Saturday from 12.30pm to 1pm.
