The former US Olympian and Kardashian family patriarch walked away unharmed from the three-car collision which left one person dead and seven others injured in Los Angeles.
The incident occurred on LA's Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu, where Jenner has a home.
Photographs taken just before the incident show Jenner holding an object in his hand while driving.
Suggestions that it was a mobile phone lead police to seek warrants for his mobile phone records and the phone itself.
If he was texting while driving, which is illegal, he could have been charged with vehicular manslaughter.
New photographs, published by TMZ, show he was holding a cigarette, not a phone.
Based on the evidence gathered so far, Jenner will not face any criminal prosecution, TMZ reports.
Photographs published of the scene also show Jenner was not injured.
According to reports, Jenner's car was being pursued by as many as five paparazzi cars prior to the crash.
However, police told reporters that there was no evidence that Jenner was trying to evade paparazzi at the time of the accident. Jenner, police said, told officers that he is routinely followed but that that was not the case on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses said the three-car collision occurred when Jenner's car rear-ended another car.
Jenner was driving a car and pulling a trailer with a dune buggy. According to a report in the New York Times, a white Lexus sedan apparently struck a Prius that had slowed or stopped. Jenner hit the white sedan from the rear.
That car was then struck by a Hummer in oncoming traffic.
The Lexus driver, said to be a 69-year-old woman who was a neighbour of the Jenner-Kardashian clan, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Unconfirmed reports state that the woman was travelling in the car with a child, who was seen crying at the scene of the accident.
There were reportedly three children in the Hummer who were treated by ambulance officers, while at least one other person was airlifted to hospital.
Police are said to be investigating why the Prius stopped suddenly in the road, causing the chain reaction.
US media has reported that Jenner voluntarily underwent a field sobriety test which he passed.
Media interest in Jenner is presently at fever pitch in the United States, following reports the 65-year-old former gold-medal winning Olympic track and field athlete is undergoing gender reassignment.
It is understood he has been living in Malibu since moving out of the Kardashian family home in Calabasas.
Jenner married Kris Kardashian in 1991 and is step-father to her four children Kourtney, Kim, Khloe and Robert.
He also has six children - four from previous marriages: Burt, Casey, Brandon and Brody, and two from his marriage to Kris Kardashian, Kendall and Kylie.
Jenner has released a statement about the crash saying: "My heartfelt and deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones, and to all of those who were involved or injured in this terrible accident."
"It is a devastating tragedy and I cannot pretend to imagine what this family is going through at this time. I am praying for them. I will continue to cooperate in every way possible."
