Henry and partners Wayne Crane and Jamie Mitchell defended their Zone 16 Triples crown by beating Ben Ford’s Dapto Citizens team 24-6 in Sunday’s final.
After three wins on the first weekend of the event, Henry beat clubmate Jesse Noronha 28-20 in last Saturday’s quarter-finals, then edged out Dylan Skinner (Wiseman Park) 26-22 in Sunday’s semi-final.
The Warilla champions booked their spot in the State Championships Playoffs later in the year with an easy win in the final at Warilla Bowling Club.
Henry was in outstanding form and led 22-2 at one stage against the Ford brothers Ben and Troy and new Citos recruit Kyle Johannes. The 25-end final was called off after 19 ends.
Henry won the Zone 16 Triples, Fours and Open Pairs in a record-setting 2014 and is off to an ominous start in 2015.
For Ben Ford, reaching the final was his best result in a zone championship.
‘‘It’s my first semi-final and first final so I’m rapt to get as far as I did,’’ Ford said.
‘‘It was a real close semi-final, just a shot in it and obviously taking on Jeremy (Henry) was a big test.
‘‘But it’s great to get to the final and it gives you confidence for the other championship events and the pennants.’’
Ford pulled off a last end 27-26 semi-final win over Daryl Webster and his Corrimal clubmates Robbie Baker and Jarrod Beckford.
Webster played one of the bowls of the tournament to save the match in the second last end with his team trailing 26-23.
With his final bowl, Webster clipped the kitty and rolled it into the ditch picking up three shots to tie the match.
But Ford held his nerve and picked up a single on the final end to clinch the semi.
The turning point came with Corrimal in control and leading 22-15 before Citos struck back with a five.
