Workaholic Wallabies and Waratahs coach Michael Cheika has answered critics of his dual role by declaring he loves the extra workload and describing it as good fun.

Some critics questioned the wisdom of Cheika juggling both jobs after the Waratahs lost their Super Rugby season opener to the Force last weekend.

Cheika took umbrage at the suggestion after the game but displayed a more positive passion on Tuesday when he was asked to give some detail on how he balances the two jobs.

"On a day off [from the Waratahs] when the team is not here, I'm working on the Wallabies and then anything else I'm doing on top," Cheika said.

"It's just about working hard.

"I could take the other [Wallabies] job and not this one and just sit around and go and watch a few games and keep my feet up and then planning and prepping.

"Or I can get into it and work hard and I like working hard, I find it good fun I suppose.

"I'm so pumped about being involved at both levels and I enjoy it.

"I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I love it."

Cheika said he had yet to speak to Waratahs and Wallabies five-eighth Bernard Foley about reports the playmaker was signing to play for a Japanese club after this year's World Cup.

He said he might catch up with Foley on Wednesday or next week, when the Tahs have a bye following Friday's clash with the Rebels in Melbourne.

"I think the focus for us is to be on footy right now, that's all I'm really thinking about," Cheika said.

"The only message for us this week is about getting our game fast, urgent, aggressive, skilful, that's it.

"The last thing I'm thinking about right now is that [Foley's situation]." - AAP
