Wednesday's New Year's Eve celebrations began at the temple at 8pm and continued through to midnight.
New Year's Day featured calligraphy exhibitions and offerings, which will run through to Sunday.
John Farnell, a volunteer at the temple and a recently converted Buddhist, was hoping this year's event would be as vibrant as the last.
"Last year, I could not move, there were so many people", he said. "People came down from Newcastle and Sydney, and there are thousands of them, as well as a lot of food."
Mr Farnell was expecting the usually quiet grounds to come alive this week.
"I still find it very peaceful, even though there are a lot of people and noise going on, there is still an effect on you here," he said.
The temple will continue to offer daily services and offerings, as well as dancing.
The Nan Tien Temple is the largest Buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere and is expecting both national and international guests during the Lunar New Year.
The celebrations will conclude with a light offering service, to be held on Sunday.
