Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts year 12 student Makayla Stubbs volunteered her time to sing two beautiful songs at a wedding thrown by more than 30 Wollongong and Shellharbour businesses for a local family affected by cancer. She told GREG ELLIS why she decided to do something special for Matt Byrne and Tara Dingle.

I got to sing two songs at the wedding ceremony for Matt Byrne and Tara Dingle above the escarpment overlooking Wollongong at Panorama House. I volunteered when my mum Michelle Stubbs, of My Sweet Style, told me about how she, Donna Leak of De'vine Wedding Events, and so many Wollongong and Shellharbour businesses were doing something really special for this couple affected by cancer. I'm 18 and I thought this was a good opportunity to do something as a younger member of the Illawarra community.
I have just started my business. This is the first event I have ever sung at since starting my new business. I sing under the name Miki Jane and am available for weddings, anniversaries, functions and corporate events. In the past I have sung for family and friends but everyone has encouraged me to do this.
I am in my final year at Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts and want to make a career of this. Anyone interested in making a booking can find me on Facebook under the name Makayla Stubbs (Miki Jane). But last weekend was about doing something nice for a local family affected by cancer.
