On Wednesday, March 11, Illawarra will be represented for the first time, by Dapto team "The Ladies Love It".
In a show of speed, the team took out the state finals in January, with the fastest time of any NSW team.
Group leader Amanda Chang, along with members Mandy Li, Natalie Chang and Joshua Bell, believes their friendship outside the store gives them a competitive advantage.
"This is the first time Dapto has entered a team in the competition so we are definitely coming into the finals as underdogs," Ms Chang said.
"[Yet] every single team member loves what they do and we're hoping that this will give us an edge over the competition."
Dapto franchisee Marty McGloin thinks the nature of the event will benefit the team.
"The competition is judged on time and any faults in quality, such as toppings, dough quality, sauce without cheese and size of slices, is represented as a time penalty," he said.
"The team trains two days a week in store, outside of their normal working hours, so nothing will be a shock on the day."
Seven teams from Australia and New Zealand will compete in the championship on the Gold Coast.
