Port Kembla has undergone a mini-revival in the last few years and it's great to see.
The Port Kembla Billy Cart Derby has breathed new life into the working-class suburb, which in its glory days was a vibrant hub of activity but in more recent years had become tired, faded and rundown.
As well as the highly popular billy cart derby, a raft of new businesses, such as wedding shops and hairdressers, have set up in the main street determined to help turn things around.
While there is still a long way to go, the Red Point Artists Association should be applauded for its creativity, vision and hard work in running the billy cart derby and other events.
Now the association has handed over the mantle to the Port Kembla Chamber of Commerce, which has new members and a renewed energy to take the area's revitalisation to a new level.
The chamber wants to build on what's happening, including the giant water slide on March 21, which sold out in less than 24 hours.
The Advertiser wishes members of the chamber all the best in their endeavours and urges business owners and residents to give them their full support.
