More than 130 business leaders area attended a free breakfast seminar at the Novotel Wollongong Northbeach on Tuesday to help improve the mental health of their workplaces, with Pillar Administration seen as a great case study of what can be done.
Chief executive Peter Brook said Pillar had a holistic wellbeing program to help employees achieve wellness in all aspects of their lives.
"Mental health is an integral facet of wellbeing, and we have a number of initiatives designed to build mental health support and awareness across our business," Mr Brook said.
"We know that mental health should not be a stigma. Thousands of Australians experience mental health issues and that's why we're strong supporters of R U OK Day, right up to the executive level."
Executive general manager of corporate services Fatima Abbas said in 2015 Pillar, with 700 staff, was delivering a specialist mental health first aid course for managers.
"This training will help managers and team leaders understand mental health issues, their causes and how they can provide a first level of support for people in their teams," she said.
"On a day-to-day basis, employees also have access to our employee assistance program - an external, confidential counselling service."
