Gregory Anthony Gregoriou had a blood-alcohol level of 0.120 when he sped through West Wollongong streets about 1.25am on November 30, running three stop signs as he turned from one street into the next.
The 23-year-old was driving a dark-coloured Subaru WRX east along Greenacre Road when he came to the attention of police, who were conducting speed checks in the area.
They clocked the Figtree man's car as he accelerated from 54km/h to 116km/h along on the residential road, before following as he sped through Mercury, Bligh and Macquarie streets.
Gregoriou pulled over in Robinson Street after police activated their lights and siren.
A later breath analysis revealed Gregoriou was driving with a blood-alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.
"Given that the accused returned a mid-range reading, he is posing an extreme risk not only to himself [and] the police, but to the general public [as well]," a police fact sheet tendered to Port Kembla Local Court read.
"If the accused had crashed, it would have been catastrophic at the speed he was travelling."
Gregoriou has pleaded guilty to reckless driving and mid-range drink-driving charges.
He will be sentenced at Albion Park Local Court on April 22.
