The main attraction will be the City Slider, but Port Kembla businesses will also get in on the act this weekend, offering plenty of fun activities.
The Wentworth Street business owners' fringe festival this Saturday and Sunday will include art, music, food and perhaps women in bridal gowns sliding down the star attraction - the 325-metre-long water slide in nearby Military Road.
An overwhelming response to ticket sales for the City Slider on March 21 prompted organisers to keep the water slide open for a second day.
Port Kembla Chamber of Commerce president Wendy Meyers said Wentworth Street would have a water theme for the two-day carnival. "We will have street performers, artists, musicians and activities for children throughout the weekend," she said.
"I think the shop owners are pretty excited. I've heard that some of the bridal shop owners are going to slide down the water slide in bridal gowns.
"There will be a lot of people around, so all the shops will be open and there will be plenty of alfresco dining. The aim is for the food outlets to be open until 10pm."
The City Slider's Stuart Harris said Wollongong was the first city to secure two days of back-to-back water-fuelled fun. He is already planning to bring the giant slide back in late 2015 or 2016. He praised Wollongong City Council, Destination Wollongong and Port Kembla Chamber of Commerce for their support.
