NLT state election hopefuls sit atop ballot papers for three of the Illawarra's five electorates, however little is known about them, even within their own party.
A search by the Mercury found Drummoyne-based Noreen Colonelli, who is challenging sitting Wollongong member Noreen Hay, runs a hair-removal business.
Ms Colonelli wasn't at her Permanence clinic in Sydney when contacted on Wednesday, but an employee confirmed she was contesting the seat.
The business - "dedicated to fulfilling your desire for beautiful, hair-free skin" - has arms in Drummoyne, Wagga and Griffith.
On the clinic's website, Ms Colonelli's story tells of a person who had body hair concerns as a teenager and has since devoted much of her time finding ways to permanently remove the unwanted strands.
"My dream today remains the same as the day I finally found my answers: that no person with unwanted hair will ever have to walk the road that I walked and that a treatment for permanent hair removal will always be available for anyone who wants it," she says on the website.
NLT Party secretary and lead candidate in the upper house Peter Jones admitted he didn't know much about the Illawarra candidates.
"We basically run through our website and through emails," Mr Jones said.
"We sent out a message amongst the people who'd signed our petition or joined the group [asking] who wants to be a candidate.
"I can't recall who exactly are our candidates, so I may or may not have met many of them."
The party is running candidates in all 93 lower house seats.
Details supplied to the NSW Electoral Commission reveal all Illawarra candidates live in Sydney suburbs, not their respective electorates.
Ahmed Elawaad (Heathcote) lives in West Hoxton, Jason Leto (Keira) comes from Canley Heights, Hugo Morvillo (Shellharbour) resides in Smithfield and Carmel Pellegrini (Kiama) is from Kensington.
Candidates' contact details are yet to be provided to the Mercury.
Mr Jones was "surprised" about the interest generated by nominating out-of-electorate candidates, saying the Greens and the Christian Democrats were doing the same.
No disrespect was intended for the people of the Illawarra, he said. "I can understand it being important people want to vote for a local, but if land tax is important for you, or if you're sick of the two major parties ... you've now got a middle option."
Earlier this year, the NLT Party came under fire for using fake images of supporters on its campaign website.
The images were downloaded from Shutterstock, a stock image website based in New York.
