South Sydney centre Dylan Walker is facing up to a month on the sidelines after sustaining a suspected broken hand in the Rabbitohs' 20-6 win over Wests Tigers on Sunday.

Walker played the full 80 minutes and scored two tries in the premiers' hard-fought victory over a Tigers side who showed more than enough to suggest they can enjoy a strong season under the coaching of Jason Taylor.

The 20-year-old injured his left hand in the opening 10 minutes at ANZ Stadium and visibly struggled throughout the first half but said he never had any intention of leaving the game.

"It just sort of went back, but I didn't want to come off or let the team down," said Walker, who'll undergo scans on Monday to determine the extent of the injury.

"I am just thankful for the boys in getting me through the game.

"I broke my thumb last year against the Warriors and played through with it so I knew I could do it again."

Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire admitted he was hopeful more than optimistic about Walker's injury but indicated he could be selected to face Parramatta on Friday.

"We're not quite sure what he's done," Maguire said.

"It could quite possibly be a break but he'll tape it up for Friday and see how it goes."

The premiership-winning mentor was happy to take the two points in an often scrappy affair that threatened to boil over on occasions in the second half.

"It was probably a bit ugly but we knew we were going to be up against a strong team today," Maguire said.

"I think the Wests Tigers have shown that in the first two games and they've been very thorough about how they've gone about their play.

"I was proud of the players and how they got through those momentum changes and came up with some special plays."

In the other Sunday game, Newcastle remained unbeaten after a late Jeremy Smith try earned the Knights a 20-18 victory over the Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Stadium.

On Saturday, Melbourne were far too good for Cronulla, completing a 36-18 win which leaves the Sharks winless after three rounds.

Across the Tasman, the Warriors made it two wins from three starts with a 29-16 victory over injury-hit Parramatta.

In the weekend's other games, Brisbane heaped pressure on North Queensland coach Paul Green with a 44-22 victory at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.

The 22-point loss means the Cowboys remain winless this season with captain Johnathan Thurston admitting he'd been "pretty embarrassed" by the defeat. - AAP
