Food won't be the only thing on the menu at Beach Burrito this Friday night.
Dapto illustrator Shane Kenning will hold a solo exhibition at the Mexican restaurant in Globe Lane, Wollongong, on March 27, where he will showcase a range of his printed works on paper. Kenning also plans on painting a canvas on the night.
The free exhibition is the first of a series booked by Trina Collins from Anchors Aweigh Art Studio, who plans on running a new exhibition each month, showcasing urban, graphic and contemporary artists.
Kenning said he was looking forward to showing his eye-catching pieces at Beach Burrito.
Influenced by iconic illustrators in both the comic and gig poster scenes, his illustrations are a "melting pot" of dark themes with humorous undertones, drawn with a bright, playful pen and contrasting colour palette.
"I am heavily influenced by comic art. Especially the comic art of the '60s and '70s," Kenning said.
"Ben Brown and Ken Taylor are two Australian artists that I respect very much. I am also a fan of comic book artists Jim Lee, Alex Ross and Frank Miller."
Kenning is intent on creating vibrant, comic-inspired digital illustrations.
He has exhibited alongside many top-notch illustrators, including Ben Brown, Ken Taylor and DEB, and his works have also featured on gigposters.com - a mecca site for band posters.
Shane Kenning's solo exhibition on Friday, March 27, starts from 6pm.
